Picasso Museum Málaga

In 2023, the Picasso Museum will put on several exhibitions devoted to Pablo Picasso on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death. From 9 May to 10 September, visitors will have the chance to take a look at Picasso Sculptor. Matter and Body. This exhibition will be followed by The Echo of Picasso, from 3 October 2023 to 24 March 2024.

Picasso Birthplace Museum

The Picasso Birthplace Museum is staging The Last Face and the Aphonia of the Minotaur until 28 May 2023. This exhibition by Mallorca-born artist Bernardí Roig, with sections at the Russian Museum Collection-Málaga and Centre Pompidou Málaga as well, is part of the international programme organised on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso (1973-2023).

Centre Pompidou Málaga

An art centre for contemporary art lovers, Centre Pompidou Málaga is staging Un tiempo propio. Liberarse de las ataduras de lo cotidiano (Time for Yourself: Escaping the Constraints of Everyday Life) until 15 October 2023. The exhibition shows the works of 90 artists, tracing the evolution of personal experiences of intimacy, including sensory and oneiric visions.

Carmen Thyssen Museum Málaga

From 11 October 2022 to 5 March 2023, the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga put on Belgian Art. From Impressionism to Magritte. Musée d’Ixelles, an exhibition of more than 60 works from the Musée d’Ixelles in Brussels exploring the visual trends that prevailed in Belgian art from the Fin de Siècle to the 1940s.

Russian Museum Collection, St.  Petersburgo-Málaga

Until May, the Russian Museum Collection, housed in the building of the old tobacco factory (known as Tabacalera) is showing a selection of works by Bernardí Roig under the title Dancing in the Silence of Time. The selection includes a series of four small bronze chrome dancers hanging from the ceiling in constant rotation and casting overlapping shadows – Shadow Dancers –, a reflection on Degas’s influence on Picasso through the ballerina motif, and a large drawing, Cap Negre (2021), in which the artist tries to introduce time in an image while the image remains unmoved.
