The Three Wise Men are coming! Magic and illusion in the streets of Málaga

Christmas is a period of magic and illusion, of reunions, lights and special dishes; of different shopping and unique activities

If there is one unforgettable moment par excellence that you should not miss if you come to visit the city at this time of year, it is the parade of Their Majesties the Three Wise Men through the streets of Málaga.

In Spain, it is customary to celebrate the Epiphany and to give gifts for Christmas on 6 January, a Christian tradition that dates back to the story of Their Majesties the Magi from the East (learned priests from the Ancient East). They came to Bethlehem to pay homage and present the newborn Jesus of Nazareth with three symbolic gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh. For this reason, on the evening before 6 January, the Three Kings' parade is held all over the country, heralding the arrival of Their Majesties, a night that children are particularly excited about.

On the evening of 5 January, the city celebrates a great parade of floats, sweets and confetti that runs through the streets of the capital, putting the finishing touch to the Christmas period. This is undoubtedly one of the most important days for the little ones, who enjoy watching the protagonists of a night in which they will receive the traditional gifts while they dream of a night to remember.

But before the big day, the Emissary and the Royal Postman of Their Majesties the Three Wise Men will be in the Plaza de la Constitución on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of January, from 19:00 to 20:00 hours, to collect the letters from the little ones.

On the afternoon of 5th January, Their Majesties the Three Wise Men of the East will arrive in Málaga to preside over a parade that this year celebrates its 100th anniversary. At 17:30, Their Majesties will arrive at the City Hall and, at 18:00, the parade is scheduled to depart from the City Hall itself. It is a parade with eleven floats and five parades that will fill the streets of the city with joy, light and colour, and will distribute thousands of kilos of sweets.

The parade has the following route: Avenida de Cervantes, Plaza General Torrijos, Paseo del Parque, Plaza de la Marina, Alameda Principal, Puente de Tetuán, Calle Nazareno del Paso, Calle Hilera, Puente de la Esperanza, Calle Prim, Calle Atarazanas, Calle Puerta del Mar, Alameda Principal, Plaza de la Marina and Cortina del Muelle.

At the end of the procession, the Three Wise Men and their entourages will parade on foot along Calle Molina Lario until they reach the Plaza del Obispo and, on the steps of the main door of the Cathedral, they will make the traditional offering to the Baby Jesus.

There will also be a living Epiphany of Events with History on the same staircase, as well as a concert by the Escolanía del Orfeón Universitario de Málaga.
