Everything you need to know to fully experience Málaga´s White Night

One of the most important cultural events in Málaga is held on 20 May, bringing together more than 100 activities in 68 different places of the city

Every year Málaga looks forward to the White Night (Noche en Blanco in Spanish), an event celebrated in May that you cannot miss. This year’s theme is ‘The good life’ (‘La Buena Vida’), and the city shows us its most cultural side so that we experience an unforgettable night.

A proposal full of life

The Good Life is the common theme for the 143 free activities of the White Night 2023, an event held on Saturday 20 May from 7 pm to 1 am in 68 different venues of the city.

‘Los Vivancos’, a flamenco group composed of Elías, Judah, Josua, Cristo, Israel, Aarón and Josué will do a street show called ‘The Good Life’ that has been specifically created for the occasion. There will be three performances of this show, each of them lasting 15 minutes (21:00h, 21:45h and 22:20h) in Plaza de la Marina.

Furthermore, you will find ‘The good chair’ (‘La buena silla’), an artistic display in Echegaray street that is a tribute to the times when the streets were brimming with neighbours that would sit on chairs and start chatting. All along the street there will be colourful bulrush chairs (typical Andalusian chairs) hanging in the air, as well as chairs located right on the street. There will be people to talk to, as the University of Málaga theatre group will participate in this display. This theatre group is led by Alessandra García, winner of the Max Awards of the Performing Arts 2022.

143 activities

This day is very special, as you will find many unexpected surprises while wandering around Málaga. The activities are divided into categories and each of them is marked with a different colour on the program. There is a category of Art, Museums and Exhibitions, (with 36 activities); artistic activities (6), music and dance activities (45); Performing Arts (12), 19 extraordinary visits and activities, and the ‘Little White Night’ (‘Nochecita en Blanco’ in Spanish) for children, with 14 activities. In addition to these, the Audiovisual Arts category has 2 activities. Finally, in the category… And you can also see… there are 9 activities.

Alcazabilla street to its full potential

Noche en BlancoIf you explore Alcazabilla street during this unique event, you will be delighted with instrumental music and a choir in a very special scenery. Choirs and pianists will perform here under the title ‘Music in Alcazabilla’.

Moreover, there will be a flute and a piano duet in the Patio de Cadenas of the Cathedral, as well as a recital called ‘Young Talents’ (‘Jóvenes Talento’ in Spanish).

On the other hand, the Eduardo Ocón music venue will host performances of today’s music scene, making this venue a space for the Young White Night (‘Noche en Blanco Joven’).

Larios street

In this edition, the students of the School of Architecture propose the urban project ‘Good flowing air’ (‘Aires de buena vida’ in Spanish), an idea whose origin dates back to the end of the 19th century, when the street became a new artery of the city.

In this very same street there will be a ‘Pillow Point’, a very special tourist information point that will assist people in everything related to the White Night event.

A family-friendly space

This year the Soho area will host the ‘Little White Night’, a space for the little ones and for the families. There will be different workshops and leisure and recreational activities related to the theme ‘The Good Life’, as well as juggling, swing, monologues and diverse workshops.

An inclusive night

The White Night has once again considered the diversity of the public that attends this event, trying to adapt to some of the diversities. Once again, the event will hold a music therapy workshop called ‘Vivir a piacere’, which will take place in the Málaga Palacio AC Hotel.

Furthermore, in this edition, the Sociedad Federada de Personas Sordas de Málaga (Federated Society of Deaf People in Málaga) will conduct a sign language workshop for everyone interested. This workshop will take place in Plaza de la Merced at the following times: 7 pm – 7.30 pm – 8 pm – 8.30 pm – 9 pm.

The official App

The Spanish multinational Babel has created the event’s official app ‘Noctiluca’, which combines technology and culture for those who want to enjoy the White Night in all its splendour. The app can be downloaded in both iOS and Android.

Noctiluca includes all the scheduled activities with their corresponding up-to-date and accurate information: location, time and conditions of participation. Its main feature is the activities’ geographical information: the app has a map of the different activities held in the city and you can select the one that you are most interested in (either by proximity or by theme). Once you have selected the activity, the app shows you the way to get to it.
