Essential plans this Autumn in Málaga
Theatre, concerts, dance and films make up this cultural agenda, set up to start this autumn
In the outcoming weeks, Malaga will have available a variety of cultural activities for those who would like to make the most of their visit to the city. These are some of the highlighted events.
Danza Malaga 2022
From October 18th to December 30th, Danza Malaga will take place with a schedule that includes shows like ‘Alma’ by Sara Baras, and choreographies from ‘La Bella Otero’ and ‘La Muerte y la doncella’ from the National Ballet of Spain, that coincide with premiering shows from Manuela Nogales, Raúl Durán and Marina Perea.
There will be a total of 31 performances from the 17 shows available, including a special UNICEF gala by Kyiv´s Ballet; the premiere of ‘La Chachi’ latest work in Andalucía; the comeback of ‘Las furias’ after its success on the Lorca Awards, as well as OtraDanza’s ‘Vigor Mortis’ reprogramming.
Among the shows that Danza Malaga has planned at Echegaray, there is ‘¿Cúal es mi nombre?, a piece made in Malaga, considered the best show for kids by Feten in 2015, the reason why it’s included in the Kids Theatre's schedule. In addition, ‘Merak’, a show that alludes to the feeling of unity with the universe, achievable with the most simple of pleasures.
The schedule of dance shows will conclude at the end of December with two classics of the Russian school, performed by the International Classi Ballet company: ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘Swan Lake’.
International Jazz Festival
From November 3rd to 9th, the 36th edition of the International Jazz Festival of Malaga will broaden its horizons and exhibit a diverse range of shows with different styles and formats, including two legendary names of jazz vocals, from two different generations: Dianne Reeves and Sheila Jordan, with Dave Holland leading the supergroup ‘Aziza’, and first-line players: trumpets Avishai Cohen and Paolo Fresu, saxophonist Kenny Garret, and pianist Hiromi, who will be receiving the Malagajazz award.
The Cervantes Theatre will be the venue chosen to show this eclectic and ambitious mix of artists, where renowned instruments soloists will meet with first-division vocalists, paying homage to David Bowie, Jack Kerouac and the Beat Generation. There will also be interesting interventions of new waves and improvised music with African roots. All of this will be complemented with a selection of formative concerts, and meet & greets with stars like Dave Holland, Lionel Louke, Chris Potter, and Eric Harland in Aziza. There will also be more veteran stars like Sheila Jordan, accompanied by The Malaga Jazz Collective.
Cervantes Theatre
El Selu´s Carnival of Cadiz musical, Ismael Serrano´s engaging author songs, and the new set by Manuel Lombo, that includes a journey through the greatest hits of authors like Manuel Alejandro, remembering legends like Olga Guillot, Rocío Jurado, Los Panchos, Moncho or Parrita. All of this will be available this new season at Teatro Cervantes in Malaga. It scheduele includes soft rumba and the cheerful Siempre Así, as well as the play ‘ El huésped del sevillano’, which is part of the XVII Cicle of the Andalusian Lyric Teathre of the Zarzuela of Malaga.
In addition, Guitarrica Delafuente will present its new album ‘La Cantera, at the municipal theatre. The album is a collection of songs that make homage to the guitarist and singer Alvaro Lafuente´s roots. All of his songs are wrapped around the sophisticated production of Raül Refree.
French Cinema Festival in Malaga
The French Cinema Festival will take place in Malaga from October 14th to 21st, and it will include its usual official section with premiers in french, documentaries, short films, the homage section, concerts and outdoor projections. This cinematographic event keeps growing, with its main goals being attracting a new audience, and involving them in the event. This year, in addition to the Award from the Audience, the festival will have a Young Panel Award.
Fancine, the festival of fictional films by the University of Malaga will be celebrated from November 9th to 18th at the Albeniz Film Theatre.
La Noche en Blanco (the White Night)
The White Night of Málaga will be back again on October 8th after not happening for two years because of the pandemic. This cultural event will offer a great number of activities around the four elements: fire, earth, water and wind. This year there´s also a new category dedicated to A.V arts. The program will start at 19.00 and end at midnight.
