Mingorance Municipal Archive Art Gallery
These exhibition galleries date back to 19 January 1989, when the King and Queen of Spain came to Málaga for the opening of the Municipal Archives on Alameda Principal. An exhibition was staged on this occasion on the origin and history of the City Council, the Royal visits, the Literary Generation of 1927, historical maps of Málaga and other city-related topics.
The early exhibitions at the galleries focused on Málaga’s customs, traditions and trades, the local arts, the activities of local associations, and the Archives collections.
At first, there was only one gallery – today’s Sala 1. If more space was required, the conference hall on the same floor was used. In April 2017, on the occasion of the exhibition Mujeres frente al mar. Obras de Manuel Mingorance Acién (Women Facing the Sea: Works by Manuel Mingorance Acién), the conference hall was definitely converted to Sala 2. Together, the two galleries came to be known as Mingorance Galleries at the Municipal Archives.
Today, the Mingorance Galleries host many different exhibitions organised by the Department of Culture throughout the year.
