National Museum of Airports and Air Transport

Museo nacional

The museum has 3000 m2 of indoor and over 4000 m2 outdoor exhibition space. Its collection comes from airports across Spain, among which are nine historic aircraft. The visit shows the inner workings of an airport, how aviation and airport technology has developed and how the various airport professions are performed, and the principles of physics applied to aviation.

The collection

The Museum displays items related to aviation and airports, from its beginnings in the '20s to the present.

We can enter a control tower from the 40s, which serves as an aircraft spotting platform, see historical aviation advertising; we can access the interior of a DC9 cabin, see aircraft engines from different periods, models of airplanes and airports, observe several aviation professions, and finally discover all the instrumentation used in a civilian airport.

We can also highlight an interactive room with severable operable mechanisms that show the principles of physics applied to aviation.

The building

The museum is housed what used to be Málaga Airport's first passenger terminal, dating from 1948. Later, before becoming a museum, it became a flying club.
