The City of Málaga is organising a wide range of cultural activities to be held in 2023. The schedule is still being finalised, but some of the activities, products and experiences have already been confirmed.

CULINARY EXPERIENCES

The idea is to reach the city’s bars and restaurants, inviting them to add Picasso-inspired dishes to their menus. Thanks to this initiative, in 2023, visitors will be able to taste the best of Málaga’s cuisine as if seen through the eyes of Picasso.

PICASSO-STYLE BULLFIGHT

Picasso’s lifelong engagement with bullfighting is celebrated in Málaga. Every year, during the August Fair, there is a Picasso-Style Bullfight. In 2023, it will be part of the anniversary celebrations – one of the highlights, in fact.

FREE AUDIO GUIDE

New audio tracks will be added to the tourism app for those places connected to the life of Pablo Picasso in Málaga. Thus, visitors will have access to a comprehensive audio guide for a full “Picasso and Málaga” tour.

CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT AND FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Educational materials will be published for little visitors, aimed at getting them familiar with the work of Pablo Picasso as they have fun in Málaga. A special calendar will be published with all the activities for families with children organised by museums and cultural centres.

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

Both amateur and professional photographers will be invited to enter photography contests showing the places where Pablo Picasso spent his early days. Their shutter counts are expected to fill the city with life and wrap it in a Picasso-inspired atmosphere.

PICASSO TOUR SIGNS

The Picasso Tour will be marked with new signs, including the places associated with the artist’s early years as well as those related to his later stays in town.

VIRTUAL REALITY SPACE

Málaga will be the first travel destination in the world to create an immersive virtual space delivering a Picasso-based virtual experience to be enjoyed by several people at a time, plunging them into the world inhabited by the artist.

MÁLAGA METAVERSE: A TOURISM AND CULTURAL EXPERIENCE

On the occasion of “2023: The Year of Picasso”, Málaga is introducing the first “real” metaverse, where anybody on Earth, from multiple devices, can enter different periods in the history of Málaga City. The metaverse will host exhibitions, lectures, competitions and concerts. Users will be able to explore the city and learn about the life of Picasso while interacting with other users.
