The Malaga Film Festival

The Malaga Film Festival

The Malaga Film Festival

Every year, Malaga rolls out its red carpet to celebrate the Malaga Film Festival. This Spanish film showcase is a national and international flagship event that attracts the stars of the cultural scene.

Festival de cine de Málaga (calle Larios)Documentaries, short films, feature films and animated films compete in the official section for the Golden Biznaga, which is a Malaga-based award that every year highlights the quality of Spanish cinema.

Every year, this festival pays tribute to different film stars and is rounded off with a long list of accompanying activities for all audiences. The red carpet attracts media, experts, spectators and film stars outside the Cervantes Theatre.
The Festival is usually held in spring and the atmosphere in the city is buzzing during these days.

Programme The Malaga Film Festival

The Official Selection of the Malaga Festival includes around twenty films in competition, both Spanish and Latin American, which compete for the Golden Biznaga. Other films in the non-competitive Official Selection, also Spanish and Latin American, will be added under the name of Málaga Premiere. The festival includes Zonazine, which focuses on new cinema with highly original auteur films.

Mosaico offers International Premieres, where non-Latin American films that have won important awards and have not yet been released in Spain can be enjoyed. TV, Documentaries and Short Films are other sections of the Festival's programme.

There is also a children's cinema section for the youngest members of the family. The festival also offers parallel activities, such as exhibitions, masterclasses and concerts.
The awards

The prizes awarded at the Malaga Festival are in the shape of a biznaga, a ball-shaped bouquet made from the jasmine flower, very typical of Malaga's summer. This is one of the symbols of the city, which pays tribute to the careers of artists and rewards the best screenings.
