August Fair

Every summer, in mid-August, Málaga celebrates its Fair. These festivals have their origin in the commemoration of the incorporation of Málaga into the Crown of Castile by the Catholic Monarchs, who entered the city on August 19, 1487.

In 1491, coinciding with the liturgical celebrations of the Cathedral Chapter, the Municipal Council decreed the start of the public festivals, which that year were celebrated on August 15. It was in 1887 when, in commemoration of the 4th Centenary of the entry of the Catholic Monarchs in Malaga, this feast re-emerged in all its current splendour, with two highlights: the historic centre and the Royal Fair.

The August Fair of Málaga has made it to today as the great summer festival, with a cosmopolitan and international character that reflects the nature of the people of Málaga.
